Last week lots of women marched in lots of different locations. They marched in different manners and for different reasons. Millions and millions of women, with different beliefs, opinions, and motivations, held this in common: all of them long to affect change. To influence. Influence is a sacred trust. An interviewer once asked a well-known Christian woman, “Who is the most influential Christian woman in America?” I doubt the interviewer expected her response. She answered, "The … [Read more...]
One Thing is Necessary
{This work of fiction is based on the framework of Luke 10:38-42.} Martha tip-toed into the room where Jesus was speaking to the guests. She padded around the table setting plates at each spot. She did not want to disturb him or her other guests. She did, however, want to disturb Mary. She let the last plate clatter into place to get Mary’s attention. But no one noticed. Not even Mary. Martha hurried back to the kitchen where the kettle was spitting into the fire. She … [Read more...]
Show Up in the Dark, Just like Jesus

All three of my boys wore it for the year or two that it fit. Only every year, it seemed at least one of them had a fever or some version of the flu, so I never really took them out in their adorable scarecrow costume. A picture on the deck was a far as we got. So when I took my youngest son trick-or-treating last year I was enthralled with … [Read more...]
