I think that I am always my own worst enemy. I always felt I had to "earn" God's love and I too would be punished if I wasn't perfect. Through learning His word and spending time in prayer, I have learned He will accept me for who I am and He is always there - in a crowded room or praying in my bed at night. He accepts me for me and I no longer have to perfect as I am always perfect in His eyes. Thank you for sharing!

What a great way to view our life as we remember it without Christ, and reflect life with Him. It is the bottom line-It is the basic truth-It is all Him. We are small yet huge, in His eyes.

In reply to <a href="https://shaunaletellier.com/six-word-story/#comment-3361">Jamie</a>.

Jamie,
I so appreciate your thoughtful and authentic response. And also your careful attention to word count ;) You are a good editor!

I think you've summed up in modern terms what Paul talks about in Romans 7:15-25. And that is why the gospel is good news! When we stumble (or plunge!) into sin, our enemy applauds, but our Savior offers his hand of grace to pull us out, clean us off, and dresses us in the cleanness of HIS perfect life. I love that 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, "God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God." It's the scandal of grace...it must simply be received. Then we can rejoice with Paul at the end of Romans 7 when he says, "Thanks be to God who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!"

In reply to <a href="https://shaunaletellier.com/six-word-story/#comment-3351">shauna</a>.

Ahh yes, but is "I" a word? Or is it just a considered a letter? Such is the great debate in word counting circles... ;-)

Regardless, I should play by the rules so my correction is below.

"I love Jesus, but swear sometimes."

I have to thank you for presenting this 6 word challenge. I really did think a long time about it, and kept coming back to these 6 words. I was afraid it might be seen as crass, shallow and maybe even a bit vulgar. But I felt it being genuine was more important.

If I may explain:

In my opinion, these 6 words are representative of a deeper duality that is dealt with every day. Every day is lived with the intent and the desire to do as God would have me do. To do his will, be forgiving and tolerant, love my neighbor, help others, give and not receive. And to understand that nothing in this world is really THAT big of a deal when it comes right down to it.

However, every day worldly challenges and circumstances come at me. Sometimes, my human side takes over and I can be judgmental, intolerant, frustrated, angry, spiteful, and the list goes on. And at these times, when I finally take that deep breath, I’m reminded how imperfect I can be. I'm reminded that the enemy wants me to feel that way and works to incite it. I am also reminded how much more I need to pursue what He wants for me, and wants in me.

I’ll never be perfect. But I’ll always strive for progress and try to be a better child of God than I was yesterday…and to ask for Grace and Forgiveness if I swear sometimes along the way.
